Artwork of the Day: Abstract Composition, Mona Hassan

Today’s Artwork of the Day is an untitled abstract composition in watercolor, 4.65″ x 6.20″, by Mona Hassan, who will be exhibiting at Artexpo New York 2011.

In this watercolor, Mona pushes the boundaries of the medium, painting with solid black and bold, vibrant, primary colors in a composition that brings to mind the oil paintings of abstract expressionist Sam Francis. Using a self-styled method, Mona’s use of a full spectrum of color, along with her keen compositional sense, has become her trademark.

Mona calls herself “a naive artist,” though strains of impressionism, expressionism and surrealism show up in her pastels, oils and watercolors. She has exhibited throughout Europe, as well as in Saudi Arabia and her native Egypt.

Mona will be exhibiting her paintings at Artexpo New York from March 25-27. We look forward to welcoming her. To find out more about Mona Hassan, visit her website, monahassan.com.
